The shipment that won't leave the dock
What the user reports
Monday 2 November at Rockford. Brennock's 4 ES-200 are picked and packed on two pallets, and the truck is at the dock, but the warehouse clerk can't post the goods issue. Last week a finance consultant tidied up account determination, removing the posting keys that had never been used.
The error: Goods issue for Brennock's delivery refused: account determination is missing for posting key COGS in chart of accounts CPCA.
What you'll do
- See the problem as the warehouse clerk: On Deliveries, post goods issue for Brennock's delivery of 4 ES-200 (customer 10000001).
- Find the cause: The message names posting key COGS in chart of accounts CPCA. What is the right fix?
- Fix it as the finance consultant.
- Prove it: run the step that failed again.

Answer and explanation (open after the drill)
The fix: Map posting key COGS in CPCA to the cost of goods sold account 500000 again.
A goods issue for a delivery posts a journal entry by itself: inventory goes down and cost of goods sold goes up. The system finds the cost of goods sold account through account determination, and that mapping is gone. A manual journal entry wouldn't move the stock, and a new delivery or price doesn't bring the mapping back.
Why it broke
Logistics documents post to finance through account determination: a goods issue doesn't ask the warehouse clerk which account to use, it looks up the account for the posting key. A mapping that has never posted is not an unused mapping; it is one whose process hasn't run yet. Here the first shipment was the first time COGS was needed.
How teams prevent it
Before removing a mapping, ask which process uses it, not whether it has posted. Change account determination through the same test-and-transport route as other configuration, and run one document of every type (receipt, issue, delivery, invoice) in a test system after the change.
Across teams
The truck waits at the dock, but the cause sits in finance configuration. Shipping can't fix it and shouldn't work around it. The quickest route is the one the message gives: posting key, chart of accounts, and the team that owns account determination.
Where AI fits
A check that lists every posting key the configured processes can call and flags the ones without an account fits well as plain automation: it is a rule, not a prediction. An assistant can explain the error and draft the request to finance (retrieve), but adding the mapping stays with the finance team.
