Break-fix drills
A short exercise that starts from a broken system: see the error, find the setting behind it, fix it and prove the fix.
Most of the support work on a running ERP system is not building new things but finding why something that worked yesterday fails today. A drill gives you one such failure on a prepared copy of Calder: a user reports an error, and you trace it to the one setting or record that causes it, fix it where it belongs and run the failed step again.
- See the problem: run the step that fails and read the message.
- Find the cause: pick the right fix from four plausible ones.
- Fix it on the screen where it belongs, as the team that owns it.
- Prove it: run the failed step again.
Each drill starts from its own prepared copy of the fictional Calder Pumpworks, with one thing broken, and is saved in this browser apart from your company. You don't need to finish the core path first. All codes and values are fictional course labels.
One a day: the daily drill is the same for everyone each day, and keeps a streak in your browser.
